The Factory is thrilled to announce its upcoming performance of Tennessee Williams’ timeless masterpiece, “A Streetcar Named Desire,” under the direction of Iz Clemens. This production marks Clemens’ directorial debut for The Factory and promises to bring a fresh and raw interpretation to the classic play.
“A Streetcar Named Desire” is a dramatic tale set in the vibrant and gritty New Orleans of the 1940s. The play follows the story of Blanche DuBois (played by Cavin Moore) who moves in with her sister Stella (Liv Litteral) and her husband Stanley Kowalski (Alex Greenlee). As Blanche’s past catches up with her, tensions escalate, leading to explosive confrontations and revealing the complexities of human nature and relationships.
Staged “en plein air” at the Talbot Historical Society Gardens in Easton, the Factory’s rendition of the classic promises to immerse attendees into the drama, offering an up close and personal experience to the story. “The production will bleed off the stage into the garden,” says Clemens. “Blurring the lines further between the story and reality, and humanizing the characters we see in this play.”
Choosing to produce this piece presents a unique challenge for both actors and the director.
“When a character is just a monster or a princess, the audience can lose all ability to analyze them or relate to them,” said Clemens. “With this production, we hope that the audience will be able to identify aspects of these people that they have seen in their own lives, and give them the opportunity to analyze true human interaction.”
Leading actors Cavin Moore, Liv Litterral, and Alex Greenlee will be joined by Noah Thompson, Zack Schlag, Erik Fair, Jeri Alexander, Laura Nichols, Tyler Henry, and Matthew Kimball.
The production crew includes Iz Clemens (Director), Madelen Rubin (Stage Manager), Willoughby Buxton (Music & Sound Direction), Ben VanNest (Set Design), Jeri Alexander (Costumes), Jana Robinson (Property), and Cecile Storm (Producer and Lighting Design).
