The Zebra Gallery Presents New Solo Exhibition byAbstract Artist Adam Henderson

The Zebra Gallery is pleased to present a new solo exhibition featuring acclaimed abstract artist Adam Henderson, with an opening reception on Friday, August 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to meet the artist and view an entirely new collection of original paintings available for purchase for a limited time.

Many visitors have admired Henderson’s work before, but this exhibition showcases an exceptional new suite of paintings that continue his exploration of abstraction, movement, and emotional expression. Rooted in abstraction yet deeply personal, his paintings embrace uncertainty and transformation, inviting viewers to engage with each work on their own terms and discover their own interpretations.

Henderson’s path to becoming an artist began in an unexpected place. While serving in the United States Air Force as an aircraft crew chief, a visit to a small gallery in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, introduced him to the expressive paintings of Rebecca Raubacher. Inspired by her fearless approach to painting, Henderson sought out her studio, beginning a friendship that has endured for more than three decades.

Soon afterward, he enrolled in art classes, where a visit to New York’s Museum of Modern Art profoundly shaped his artistic direction. Encountering the work of Abstract Expressionists Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock confirmed his desire to pursue painting as a deeply
personal and intuitive practice.

Returning home, Henderson transformed a friend’s garage into his first studio, teaching himself to build canvases and experimenting with techniques that emphasized spontaneity over representation. Today, his creative process still begins with free-form pencil marks and intuitive gestures, allowing each painting to evolve organically rather than following a predetermined plan.

Since 2020, Henderson has been represented by Christopher Anthony Ltd. Gallery in Palm Springs, California, and since 2024 by The Zebra Gallery in Easton. His work is held in private collections throughout the United States and abroad.

“Adam’s paintings are both powerful and deeply inviting,” said Susan Schauer John, owner of The Zebra Gallery. “There is an honesty and freedom in his work that resonates with seasoned collectors and first-time viewers alike. Every painting has its own voice, and this new collection is among his strongest to date. We are delighted to share it with our community.”

The exhibition offers collectors and art enthusiasts a rare opportunity to experience Henderson’s newest body of work and meet the artist during opening night. The reception is free and open to the public.
