Description

The Mid-Shore Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity that serves individuals, associations and nonprofit organizations in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot Counties.  Its’ mission is to connect private resources with public needs to enhance the quality of life throughout the Mid-Shore Region.

The Foundation was established in 1992 with a $236,000 bequest from Colonel and Mrs. Edgar Linthicum to the United Fund of Talbot County.  Recognizing the need for a community foundation, the Directors of the United Fund used the bequest to establish the Mid-Shore Community Foundation.

The Foundation is located in the historic Bullitt House in Easton, Maryland.  In 2002, Mr. & Mrs. Nicholas Brady, Mr. & Mrs. A. James Clark and Mr. & Mrs. William Hunter donated the Bullitt House to the Mid-Shore Community Foundation so that this historic residence would provide a permanent home for the Foundation.  The additional space in the Bullitt House is leased to nonprofit organizations - Discover Easton and the Women and Girls Fund of the Mid-Shore Community Foundation.

The Foundation works with donors to establish funds that enhance the quality of life on the Mid-Shore.  Donors establish charitable funds, either immediately or via bequest, to support the causes they care about.   The Foundation manages the funds according to the donors’ wishes and investment proceeds are distributed as grants.

Since its beginning 25 years ago, the Foundation has matured to become one of the most significant foundations – public or private – in the State of Maryland, with more than $70 million in assets.  Since its founding, the Mid-Shore Community Foundation has received $69 million in contributions and has awarded $29.5 million in grants and scholarships.

In addition to grants and scholarships, the Foundation provides training programs, endowment management and planned giving services to area nonprofits.  The Mid-Shore Community Foundation also supports start‐up charities and local charitable projects through fiscal sponsorship.
