“Thanks, I drew it myself.”
As someone with an illustration background, the pride I’d take in uttering that simple phrase when someone complimented my work is something that always stays with me. So, I was surprised to hear it said to me on the other side of the door at Wilson Outdoor Company, the newest shop to grace our streets.
As you step in, you’ll notice a sweeping suite of hats, shirts, even glassware and ornaments, with unique illustrative designs on them that still felt unique to our area. That’s because they are: The two brothers behind the Wilson Outdoor Company, Matt and Will, draw and print their designs on their merchandise in store. Having a screen-printing background myself, I felt an immediate sense of pride that Easton was hosting a shop like theirs in town.
The clothes are high-quality too; after a turn about the shop it became obvious that the two brothers had an eye out for durable, adventure-worthy items. I guess that should ’ve been obvious: Outdoor is right in their name, after all.
And if you like the feel, you could get your own designs, or logos, or… really whatever, put on the same quality items, too. After a few minutes talking with Will, he broke down that they offer batch printing as well, and use the storefront as a chance for potential buyers to try out the look and feel of their options, in addition to using it as a typical clothing shop.
Pretty clever. Maybe that’s why I could never turn my own art into a booming business. Either way, whatever it takes, these guys got it, and I recommend you check them out. They’re very nice guys, local boys, if that matters to you, the clothes are nice and the designs are great.
And yes, he drew them himself.
