Shore Lit is pleased to present the 2023 Shore Lit College Writers Fall Showcase, a first-of-its-kind event bringing together student authors from across Maryland’s Eastern Shore for a public reading.

The showcase will be held in the Stoltz Listening Room at the Avalon Theatre, Easton, and feature advanced students in the creative writing programs at Washington College and Salisbury University. Each student author will read a short selection of their original poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction.

“There is an incredible amount of talent in the college writing programs here on the Shore,” says Shore Lit Founder Kerry Folan. “Many of these student authors are already publishing in national journals and winning major awards. Bringing these brilliant young writers together offers them not just a chance to learn about and celebrate each other’s work, but also to connect with other ambitious artists and expand their network of peers, mentors, and collaborators.”

This event is a natural expansion of Shore Lit’s author series, now in its second year, which brings several nationally and internationally recognized authors to the Mid-Shore each season. Recent Shore Lit visiting writers include novelists Tania James and Jung Yun, memoirist CJ Hauser, and cultural critic Lawrence Weschler. “Building inclusive community is one of Shore Lit’s core values, and amplifying the voices of emerging writers is one important way to honor that value,” says Folan.

Through the generosity of the Avalon Foundation, this event also offers the Mid-Shore community a chance to enjoy the work of the next generation of literary writers with no financial barrier to access.
