Talbot Hospice is happy to announce that its annual Memorial Walk has “gone virtual” and has been rescheduled for the weekend of Friday, September 25 – Sunday, September 27. The event was originally scheduled for April 25th to coincide with Oxford Day, but was cancelled due to COVID-19.
“We were disappointed that we had to cancel our traditional event this spring, but we are excited about the new possibilities a virtual event provides,” said Emilie Joshi, Memorial Walk Co-Chairwoman and a Talbot Hospice Board Member. “With a virtual event, participants can walk or run wherever and whenever they choose over the weekend, and can also invite friends, family and coworkers to join them.”
As part of the new virtual event, Talbot Hospice is encouraging the Mid-Shore to walk one million steps in memory of a loved one. The steps will be tallied throughout the weekend and final results will be shared on Sunday evening.
“One mile is approximately 2,000 steps, and we are asking our friends on the Mid-Shore to dedicate their weekend steps to Talbot Hospice to help us reach our goal and to raise funds and awareness of the important role Talbot Hospice plays in our community,” said Joshi.
Participants are also encouraged to share photos of their walk and the names of those who they are honoring on social media.
“In addition to our excitement about the new format for our Memorial Walk, we are also thrilled to welcome Craig’s Drugstore as our presenting sponsor,” said Mia Cranford, Talbot Hospice Development Director. “Their generous support has underwritten the event and ensures that all registration fees will go directly to support our patients and their families. We are also proud to have What’s Up Media as our official media sponsor.”
Registration fees are $25/adults, $10/students, and no fee for children under 12. Participants will receive a t-shirt, running bib they can personalize with the person(s) they are honoring and other gifts. All proceeds benefit Talbot Hospice patients and their families, who are never turned away due to an inability to pay.
