Easton EDC Celebrates National Parks and Rec Month
EASTON — The Easton Economic Development Corporation (Easton EDC) along with community partners the Town of Easton and Talbot County Government are celebrating National Parks and Recreation Month with proclamations, recognition of facilities employees, and an educational social media campaign. The organizations are working together to highlight the importance of open spaces and community areas in the county.
“Accessible, open, and friendly outdoor spaces are integral to a town’s well-being,” remarked Holly DeKarske, Executive Director, Easton EDC. Well-maintained parks provide aesthetic benefits and can have a positive economic impact on property values as well. People want to live where they can play! Easton is rapidly becoming an area of choice for many young families as well as retirees and small business owners, who value the array of choices we have in outdoor recreation.”
Talbot County presented a proclamation during their July 11th County Council meeting to Council Member and liaison to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Dave Stepp. Easton’s Mayor Megan Cook and the Council of Easton presented a proclamation to Lorraine Gould, Parks and Recreation Director, recognizing the town’s Parks and Recreation team for their efforts.
Easton’s proclamation states that “Parks and Recreation is an integral part of communities throughout this country, including the Town of Easton. Parks and Recreation promotes health and wellness, and promotes time spent in nature, which positively impacts mental health by increasing cognitive performance and well-being.”
Easton is a great place to enjoy the outdoors. Numerous recent projects such as the rails to trails extension, purchase of future park lands, creation of the waterfront Easton Point Park, and the recent opening of eight free pickleball courts for community use all are examples of the town’s commitment to creating recreation opportunities for residents and visitors.
Easton’s Mayor Megan Cook commented, “We are so lucky to have so many beautiful parks in our town and each one is unique and beautiful. We recognize the importance of investing in such public spaces.”
