Discover Easton is excited to announce the return of the May Day Flower Celebration in beautiful historic downtown Easton on May 1st and 2nd. The doors and windows of participating businesses will be decorated with vibrant, award-winning floral displays, along with a large flower display at the entrance of Thompson Park in partnership with Chesapeake Blooms and the Garden Club of the Eastern Shore. Wreaths, baskets, planters, and arrangements will be ready for viewing starting Friday, May 1st, and will remain on display throughout the weekend.
Downtown Easton’s shops, restaurants, and theaters will also offer special sales and experiences for visitors during the event. From fresh spring fashion to live music and delicious food during the close of Easton’s Restaurant Week, the downtown streets will be alive with the energy of spring. During the event, Discover Easton will offer flower stamp cards to invite shoppers to explore the many wonderful shops downtown. When visitors spend 25 dollars at any retail shop in downtown Easton and earn a stamp, they can collect stamps on their cards. Visitors who earn three stamps can then exchange their completed card at the Visitor Center at 11 South Harrison Street for a gift of a mini vase of fresh cut flowers, courtesy of Discover Easton. Shoppers can pick up their cards at any participating retail store downtown during May Day, May 1st and 2nd.
Easton’s First Friday Gallery Walk will also be underway, with galleries open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring art exhibits and refreshments. Many of Easton’s art galleries will follow the fine arts and flowers theme with ‘Art in Bloom’, a showcase of floral arrangements inspired by fine art in downtown showrooms throughout the event.
May Day also marks the start of Outdoor Movie Nights in Easton. There will be a free screening of the 2024 film The Wild Robot, sponsored by For All Seasons, starting at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the Talbot County Historical Society garden on Friday, May 1st. Bring a chair and a blanket for cinema under the stars.
The Avalon Theatre’s 26th annual Multicultural Festival will be on Saturday, May 2nd, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Idlewild Park. This joyful celebration showcases and honors the diversity of the mid-shore community. The spring tradition fosters understanding, promotes unity, and celebrates the arts, music, and culinary delights across various cultures. Along with the entertainment and delicious cuisine, there will be plenty of activities, including children’s games, face painting, and cultural crafts.
“After a winter that felt like it would never end, we’re very excited to fully welcome spring with May Day,” stated Holly DeKarske, the Executive Director of Easton EDC. “This year’s event comes right after we highlight our amazing local eateries during restaurant week, so we’re happy to keep that spirit alive by celebrating our lively downtown.”
