I’m a bit of a protein fiend. If I’m not at work I’m chasing a 3-year-old around, and If I’m not doing that I’m in the gym. I need the energy boost, and will often joke that my body is a machine that runs on coffee and protein. (A joke my doctor does NOT find funny.) And there’s
no meal where this is truer than breakfast. Some folks can get by on a breakfast bar or a handful of oats, but I typically start my day with two eggs and a homemade protein shake.
So when I started my Wednesday in a rush and stumbled into the office on an empty stomach, I was not starting my day right. I was desperate to get some fuel in the tank, the right kind of fuel. In need of my most essential ingredient, I was pointed in the direction of Agave Juicing Co. in the Talbot Town Shopping Center. It turned out to be the perfect place to fuel up.
The door to Agave swings open to welcome you into a trendy take on a bohemian juice bar displaying authentic ingredients. Any shake-snob would feel like they’re in good hands just looking around the place: subtle East Asian and South African flairs, vibrant green plants, and bottles of store-brewed mixes already in bottles fill the bar. Without putting on airs, you can tell the ingredients at Agave are hand-picked and mixed for the best experience possible. I was charmed to see a small selection of hand-made jewelry and candles adorning the window and a section for kids to play while refueling parents enjoyed their beverage of choice.
Speaking of beverages, mine ended up being a ‘Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein” shake. Maybe not the most daring of the options, but I had a craving, and Agave didn’t disappoint on the classics. The raw cacao lit up my taste buds, and their almond milk and peanut butter choices made the whole thing as smooth as silk. Delivering more than just the protein I was craving, by the time I finished it off I was feeling plenty energized. I managed to tackle the workday with a surplus of energy I don’t normally have, and I’ve got to credit my Banana-chocolate pick-me-up for the boost.
Next time, I’ve got my eyes set on the ‘Super Cell’, a blend of blueberries, spirulina (which is an algae superfood, and yes I had to look it up), banana, oats, cinnamon, almond milk, and you guessed it; protein. And I assure you there will be a next time. Some days, you need a little more than just fuel in the tank. Sometimes you need the premium stuff. It’s good to know I can get mine at Agave.
