Mark your calendars for Reflections & Connections: Public Recording Sessions at the Academy Art Museum on Saturday June 28th and Sunday June 29th from 1pm - 4pm.
Inspired equally by Estes’ urban landscapes and streets and buildings of Easton, these recording sessions in the ...Museum’s Performing Arts Room, featuring local musician and mentor Kentavius Jones and his band, will incorporate original music by Jones as well as field recordings capturing the essence of Easton—street sounds, voices, and ambient noise that define the town’s character.
To translate Estes’ landscapes into sound, Jones has immersed himself in Estes’ works: “I’ll review the pieces in our exhibit and others that won’t be included to gather a solid understanding of his work. I also created a slide deck of the images as a visual guide for inspiration.” The recording process will be both structured and improvisational, allowing the images to dictate sonic textures that balance the vibrancy of urban life with moments of lightness and air.
Collaboration is central to this project, with the Museum’s Teen Interns and organizations like the Boys & Girls Club and Talbot Mentors involved in connecting young people to the program. “This project gives kids an opportunity to see music as a creative medium that provides them with purpose, connection, and a means of expression.”
This program is generously supported by Art Bridges. #DiscoverArt #DiscoverEaston
