About the Artist: David Rathbone is a photographer and printmaker based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, known for long-term landscape projects realized as hand-coated platinum-palladium prints made in his studio. His first book, Big Water: Photographs from Virginia's Eastern Shore, was published in 2023, followed by A Changeable Sea: Photographs from the North Atlantic in early 2026. His work has been exhibited across the country, including at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, California; the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, Massachusetts; and the Woodmere Art Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Alongside his photography, Rathbone is also an accomplished woodworker and the owner of Saw & Mitre Frame Company, where he creates handcrafted frames for photographers worldwide. He holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Business Administration from the College of William & Mary and previously worked in corporate roles before pursuing his creative path. When he's not in the studio, he can often be found at the beach catching a few waves or at home with his wife and four children.
About the Moderator: Matthew Moore is an artist, curator, educator, and community organizer. Moore is currently serving as the Director of Education and Interpretation at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland. Prior to this appointment, Moore was a tenured professor and head of the photography program at Anne Arundel Community College from 2010-2025. While there he served as the Visual Arts Department Chair from 2016-2019.
As an artist, Moore’s work examines patterns in the built environment that shed light on the way collective memory and historic narratives are formed. He is the recipient of Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Awards in 2015 and 2018, and a Creative Artist Grant in 2022. Moore’s work has been featured in Time Magazine, The Daily Mail, Atlas Obscura, Musee, BmoreArt, Lenscratch, Deep Baltic, and many other publications.
Moore has a BFA in Photography from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI, and an MFA in Photography from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA.
