Pysanky Workshop

The word "pysanky" (plural of pysanka) comes from the Ukrainian word "pysaty," meaning "to write." In this workshop, you will draw your design on an egg with hot wax using a tool called a kistka, then dip it into dye, repeating the process with different dye colors, layering wax over the dyed areas to create a multi-colored pattern. Pysanky designs often include traditional symbols and patterns, some of which have religious or cultural significance. A Slavic tradition, Pysanky are a cherished part of Ukrainian culture, particularly during Easter celebrations, and the art of making them is often passed down through generations.
