The word "pysanky" (plural of pysanka) comes from the Ukrainian word "pysaty," meaning "to write." In this workshop, you will draw your design on an egg with hot wax using a tool called a kistka, then dip it into dye, repeating the process with different dye colors, layering wax over the dyed areas to create a multi-colored pattern. Pysanky designs often include traditional symbols and patterns, some of which have religious or cultural significance. A Slavic tradition, Pysanky are a cherished part of Ukrainian culture, particularly during Easter celebrations, and the art of making them is often passed down through generations. Light refreshments included. Ages 10+
