Meet the Artist, Friday, November 6, from 5-7 PM | Zach Gallery
Exhibition on view through January 2, 2027.
Charlotte Potter is an internationally exhibited conceptual artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores glass as a medium for investigating materiality, transformation, and human experience. Drawn to the inherent contradictions of glass- hot and cold, fragile and strong, elastic and brittle- her work challenges conventional understandings of the material. Her practice is rooted in an interest in what glass can communicate beyond its physical form, embracing its capacity to embody ideas, capture fleeting moments, and bridge the boundaries between traditional craft and contemporary art.
The Weight of Ornament features eight sculptures with antlers sculpted entirely by hand from molten glass, in a process that bears an unexpected resemblance to the way antlers grow in nature.
“Ultimately, these sculptures are an exercise in contradiction. They explore the uneasy relationships between strength and vulnerability, aggression and beauty, masculinity and femininity, visibility and disappearance. I am interested in what happens when we preserve the form of something powerful while removing the very qualities that make it so. What remains is both a tribute to the natural world and a gentle subversion of the symbols through which we attempt to possess it.” - Charlotte Potter
