    About the event
FIND YOUR STORY. FOLLOW THE FLOW.

Spend time with David Rathbone’s Big Water palladium photographs and discover how visual art can inspire fresh perspectives, unexpected stories, and new creative possibilities. Through the art of ekphrasis—writing in response to visual art—we’ll explore how writers transform images into poems, novels, and stories. Using guided observation, word lists, mind mapping, and imaginative prompts, you’ll look beyond the visible to uncover hidden meanings, memories, emotions, and stories waiting to be told.

Together, we’ll explore the power of place and its influence on character, memory, and personal history. We’ll consider the tensions between land and water, beauty and imperfection, the visible and hidden, and the constant and changing—and how these contrasts can reveal deeper truths and inspire compelling narratives. Whether you write fiction, memoir, poetry, or simply want to spark your creativity, you’ll leave with fresh ideas and the beginnings of a new piece of writing.

Writers and nonwriters of all levels and interests are welcome!
