Due to anticipated low temperatures and dangerously cold conditions, Talbot County Government has activated warming centers throughout the county to provide residents with a safe place to get warm during regular business hours.

For urgent after-hours needs for a temporary warm place, please call 410-822-0095.
Talbot County Emergency Services encourages residents to take the following precautions during periods of extreme cold:
Minimize time outdoors, particularly for older adults, young children, and individuals with medical conditions. Check on neighbors, friends, and family members who may be more vulnerable.
Pets are also sensitive to extreme cold; ensure pets have warm shelter and limit their time outdoors.
Dress in several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight clothing rather than a single heavy layer. Wear hats, gloves, and warm footwear.
Be aware of frostbite. If skin becomes numb, waxy, white, or gray, warm the area gently and seek medical attention.
Watch for signs of hypothermia, including shivering, confusion, slurred speech, memory loss, and extreme fatigue. Seek medical assistance immediately if symptoms appear.
Use caution when heating your home. Follow manufacturer instructions for space heaters, fireplaces, and woodstoves.
Be aware of carbon monoxide risks when using fuel-burning appliances. Ensure carbon monoxide detectors are functioning properly.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed of weather updates and check on local resources as cold conditions persist.
