We are thrilled to welcome you to our 34th Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival! During the first two weeks of June our internationally recognized Festival Artists will perform eight concerts featuring works from the 18th to the 21st centuries. We will hear romantic classics from Schumann, both Robert and Clara, bohemian elegance in three works from the great Czech composer Antonín Dvořák, plus Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Bartók and Bolcom. Music of Debussy and Ravel will showcase harp virtuoso June Han who will be with us for the first time.
The opening concert at Christ Church in Easton will include music of Beethoven and Dvořák with a preconcert commentary by Jonathan Palevsky of WBJC. The closing concert at the Oxford Community Center will feature two great string quartet masterworks by Schumann and Mendelssohn. This year we welcome back the amazing flutist Tara Helen O’Connor, the extraordinary violinist/violist Yura Lee, the distinguished pianist Robert McDonald and the elegant cellist Peter Stumpf as well as many other of our favorite festival artists.
Festival-goers will feel right at home as we return to Easton’s Academy Art Museum, Christ Church, the Prager Family Auditorium, and Trinity Cathedral where we will present the Co-Winners of the 2018 Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition, Trio St. Bernard. We expand our horizons by appearing in new venues with our Festival Gala concert and silent auction taking place at spacious Temple B’nai Israel in Easton and with a concert at Christ Church in Cambridge where we will hear oboist extraordinaire Peggy Pearson and the fabulous pianist Diane Walsh in a duo recital. Watch for a surprise!
We hope you will enjoy our music.
