The PHOTOS FOR FOOD BANKS Project

Ten Talbot County and Delmarva photographers have come together and donated some of their best photographs in exchange for a donation to their charity. Photos for Food Banks is one of the only charities that gives back to the people who make a monetary donation.

Photo Easton’s formula is simple – make a donation and receive a photograph of your choice equal to the value of your donation.

According to the Talbot County Hunger Coalition – 1 in 5 children are food insecure. That means hungry. 1 in 10 residents are food insecure; 5% of our seniors live below the poverty line; 43% of Talbot Public School students receive free or reduced price school meals and to top off the list – 2% of Talbot’s residents use Food Stamps (SNAP). All this, in one of the wealthiest counties in the United States. Note: These facts were tallied prior to the pandemic. What could the stats possibly be now? It is too early to say.

The Photo Easton photographers came together recently in a ZOOM meeting one Tuesday afternoon. They discussed the massive lines at food banks around the U.S. as seen on TV. The people in the meeting were in despair about the situation and the conversation turned to the question – ”How can we help?” Several ideas were discussed and photoeaston.org was the idea that stuck. Each of the “photographer partners” donated three of their best photographs to the effort. If the program is well received, there will be more.

The Photo Easton group consists of former corporate heads, vice presidents of companies like Dupont, Columbia PHD’s, a graduate from Corcoran School of Art, MBAs, CPA accountants, managers from the space program, career military intelligence and retirees from the Federal Government. All of the 10 photographer partners have the “love of photography” in common. Many are selling or award winning artists in their own right. Their photos have graced the covers of Attraction Magazine, What’s Up Shore Magazine, Tidewater Times and have appeared in other local publications. The photographer partners in photoeaston.org are: Norm Bell (Oxford), Ned Egan (Easton), John Ellsworth (Trapp), Cal Jackson (Easton), Chris Jewett (Grasonville), Sharon Lee (Easton), Steve Lingeman (Easton), Tony Masso (St. Michael’s), Ted Mueller (Easton), Charles Riter (Easton) and Carol Horton Ward (Salisbury).

PhotoEaston.org is affiliated with the Mid-ShoreCommunity Foundation. MSCF will manage all donations. Our photographer partners have donated supplies, so initially 100% of all donations will go to charity.
