Paddle-Jam event raises $2,000 for Take the Helm

EASTON, MD – The Talbot Young Professionals, a committee of the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce, presented the Take the Helm program with a $2,000 check, from proceeds from their 3rd Annual Paddle-Jam event.

Take the Helm is a program of the YMCA of the Chesapeake that uses the art of wooden boat-building to help Talbot County high school students develop self-confidence, purpose and team-building skills.

Paddle-Jam took place June 15th at the Easton Point Marina and featured a paddle-poker run where participants could kayak, canoe or stand-up paddle board their way through the 6-mile course, collecting poker cards and competing for valuable prizes donated by event sponsors. After the paddle, the crowd stayed and enjoyed live music from Black Dog Alley, plus food vendors, steamed crabs and lawn games like bucket pong and corn hole.
