A HAPPY PLACE celebrates First Friday with Award Winning Artist & Instructor Katie Cassidy

Do you love seeing the beauty in everyday things? Does color and light excite you? Do you wish flowers would bloom forever?

November at A Happy Place boutique answers these questions, with a selection of original pastel and oil paintings by nationally recognized artist and instructor Katie Cassidy.

Known for her colorful, light filled impressions of flowers and everyday scenes, Cassidy seeks beauty in ordinary life, “the colors of nature, a face lit a certain way – anything that inspires me. I really do not have a favorite subject matter. I like taking a simple subject and seeing it in a new way – clotheslines, driveways, old houses, people doing simple tasks.”

Katie’s earliest memories are drawing with pencils and crayons. “My Mom would give me typewriter tablets and I would fill them up. It was really all I ever wanted to do when I was in school.

“Years later, when I left my marketing job in the Washington, DC, area and moved to the Eastern Shore to concentrate on creating fine art, I also started teaching. For the past 17 years I have taught many classes for adults at the Academy Art Museum and have created the current curriculum – hiring teachers and writing classes. This has been extremely fulfilling and lots of fun,” says Cassidy. Katie has also won top awards in several recent major Maryland and national pastel society exhibits.

Boutique owner Beth Hickman invites the public to A Happy Place on First Friday, November 6, from 3 to 7 p.m., to meet Cassidy and view her newest works. “Our shop is spacious with plenty of room for social distancing,” Hickman said. “I am pleased to have Katie’s work in my grouping of artists. It’s beautiful work created by a lovely woman. Katie’s work makes me happy.”

A Happy Place will also kick off the holiday season during First Friday as artists “Create & Sell Ornaments at A Happy Place to benefit Talbot Hospice” (Learn More)
