Consisting of soprano Andrea Wozniak and pianist Pierre-Nicolas Colombat, Duo Velour explores such questions as where exactly do the stage and real life meet? And where do we draw the line between art song and popular music?
Taking their name from the attire of notorious cabaret owner and performer Aristide Bruant, the pair pack their shows with equal parts comedy and tragedy, spanning across the world of late-19th century European cabarets to the semi-staged songs of contemporary composers, some of which were composed specifically for them.
Michigan native Wozniak is a graduate of the New England Conservatory who was awarded second prize last year in the Kurt Weill Foundation’s prestigious Lotte Lenya Competition. Currently working on his Doctorate of Musical Arts at Boston University, American/French Colombat’s repertoire encompasses everything from ragtime and silent film music to the avant-garde repertoire music of today.
