Join The Avalon for a Global Day of Unity

The Avalon Foundation’s mission is focused on building a stronger community on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. That used to mean bringing people together in the joy of the shared experience of art. For the time being it means using our skills and capacity to help people weather the COVID19 storm. We are eager to get back to programming concerts and festivals, but for now we are engaged in very different work, still focused on building a stronger community:

·       Our television station has set up a mobile studio at the Talbot Emergency Management offices. Through it’s livestreaming capacity the station is the only way that the public can view both Town and County Council meetings. In addition, the Avalon has produced a series of PSA announcements for the EMS team.

·       The Avalon Farmers Market launched its new CDC compliant drive through format on April 11 and continues to add vendors as the growing season progresses. Our model is being copied across the nation. Each week hundreds of local families are getting fresh produce and farmers have a way to bring their harvest to market.

·       The Avalon Foundation has taken on managing the logistics of the novel “Feed the Frontlines MES” program. The program was created to funnel charitable donations to Talbot restaurants to produce meals for a wide range of emergency and medical workers when and where needed. Just in the past two weeks the Avalon has coordinated and delivered 1,081 meals. The program generates much needed work for restaurants and gives front line workers a boost of much deserved gratitude.

·       The Avalon Foundation is even helping to draft press releases on behalf of Talbot County summarizing their Emergency Management calls. Under normal circumstance the County is more than capable of this kind of work, but right now our help means that Talbot County staff can focus their attention directly on the needs of citizens instead of attending to clerical work.

The Avalon Foundation is already working on plans for how it will restart its programming responsibly, when that is possible. We miss you too.  In the meantime, the Foundation will use its abilities to be part of the solution.

On May 5, 2020, The Avalon Foundation is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of unity.

We are still doing our mission, building a stronger community. But we can’t do this without you.

Not only do we need your support, we need your help to spread the word. Please tell your friends and family why you believe in our work and encourage them to support us too! Join the movement on May 5, 2020. Thank you for being a part of our team.

We hope you are healthy and safe. The Avalon Staff Team
