CFF, In Residence brings filmmakers in their homes to your home via a live feed on the Chesapeake Film Festival Facebook page. We’re bringing you two of our most dedicated filmmakers, Sandy Cannon-Brown and Jamie Currie. They’ll engage you with their personal takes on environmental filmmaking on the Eastern shore and abroad. Date: Thursday May 21 and Thursday, June 4 Time: 1 p.m.-1:15 p.m. Who: Sandy Cannon-BrownSandy Cannon-Brown, award-winning environmental filmmakerSandy Cannon-Brown, founder (1985) and president (1985-present) of VideoTakes, Inc. is an award-winning environmental filmmaker whose work has taken her to Central and South America, West Africa, the Northern Great Plains of Montana and the Everglades. Today, she focuses on the Chesapeake Bay in partnership with writer Tom Horton and photographer Dave Harp. The trio’s documentaries include Beautiful Swimmers Revisited, High Tide in Dorchester, An Island Out of Time and A Voice for the Rivers. They are currently working on a film about San Domingo, MD. Founded in 1820, San Domingo is perhaps the oldest continuous African-American community in the state. Sandy taught and was an associate director for the Center for Environmental Filmmaking at American University. She was named AU’s adjunct professor of the year in 2011. Among her other honors, Women in Film & Video DC honored Sandy as a Woman of Vision in 1998. She lives in St. Michaels, MD with her husband Omer and their poodle Asta. Jamie Currie is a filmmaker with a specialty in science communication. He has a background in environmental science, documentary film production, podcasting and wildlife videography. Jamie was recently accepted into a Master’s program in marine biology at the University of Alaska. Before that, he worked for three years as a documentary filmmaker and science communicator for the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. His most recent podcast, Still Lives, reached number 12 on Apple’s fiction podcast charts and was nominated for a variety of Audioverse Awards. He has served on the board of the Chesapeake Film Festival for the past two years, helping out with environmental programming and trailer production.
