CALL FOR ALL ARTISTS BRAND NEW EVENT FOR YOU!!!

On the weekend of Nov 14-15, non-profits throughout Talbot County are working together, along with local restaurants and others, to offer a socially-distanced Community Day – Arts & Culture Celebration. Participating organizations will offer a wide range of programming (for adults, families, kids) that showcases their community commitment and their individual missions – which, when taken all together, make Talbot County unique! Programs ranging from family art activities, lectures, a drive through art gallery, conservation activities, music and many more will be taking place at a variety of locations, many of which will be outdoors.

As part of Community Day the Avalon Foundation will host “Art For the Outdoors” (AFTO) a Covid 19 inspired driving exhibition and sale of artwork produced by local artists. The artwork exhibited must be designed for permanent installation outdoors. The drive thru exhibition and sale will be held Saturday, November 14 from 10 am- 4 pm and Sunday, November 15 from noon-4 pm (the weekend during which the town has historically hosted the Waterfowl Festival). Artwork will be displayed along Hanson Street between South Street and Idlewild Avenue in Easton, MD and can be viewed on foot with proper social distancing or from the comfort and safety of your car. This event is rain or shine.

One of the very few upsides stemming from the COVID 19 pandemic is that many people have rediscovered their outdoor spaces. Art created for and purchased through this event will support local artists but also bring beauty into the buyer’s porches, patios, gardens, barns, sheds, fences and more.

“During the Pandemic, normal events and festivals have been limited or cancelled. The Foundation was able to present a modified and safe Plein Air Easton Festival this year, yet was unable to safely present the popular Quick Draw and Local Color Exhibition which has historically provided an opportunity for local artists to participate in the festival,” said Suzy Moore, Artistic Director at The Avalon Foundation. “AFTO will provide artists working in nearly all mediums the chance to create a unique piece of artwork and have the opportunity to sell their art,” said Moore.

Entries may consist of any piece of artwork that is designed with a certain amount of weatherproofing in mind. Any artists from Maryland’s Eastern Shore may apply. All interested artists must register at www.avalonfoundation.org and pay the $25 registration fee. Completed pieces should be no bigger than 3 feet by 4 feet, weigh less than 30 pounds, and be able to be displayed on two free standing stakes with two attachment points. Any exceptions will be considered as long as the artist provides an approved method to display their work. We are eager to present an exhibition that reflects the diverse work of regional artists. Due to logistics and spacing on Hanson Street, the exhibition will be limited to the first 125 artists who apply so be sure to get your registration in early.

Important dates are as follows – September 29: Prospectus Released, September 30: Online Registration Opens, October 30 or when 125 arts have applied registration Closes, November 5-7: Artists deliver artwork to Waterfowl Building (by appointment only), November 14: 10 am- 4 pm- Exhibition Hours, November 15: Noon to 4 pm Exhibition Hours, November 15: 4 to 7 pm- Buyers may pick up their new purchases, November 16, 17, 18- Unsold artwork to be reclaimed by artists at Waterfowl Building.
