Discover Easton Director’s Report

The shift from summer to fall in Easton is brisk, as the sudden surge of cooler weather brings about summer style sales and fall festivals, which kicked off with the recent Monty Alexander Jazz Festival over Labor Day weekend. To be honest, autumn is our favorite time of year in Easton, as it feels like there is no lull as we go from one event to the next, from Monty Alexander to Frederick Douglass Day, then to the Easton Beer Fest, Chesapeake Film Festival, Academy Art Museum Craft Show, and others, all leading up to the 49th annual Waterfowl Festival. 

I apologize to those events that I failed to mention, including our own Easton Arts District Culture Crossing and First Friday events, which we’re happy to report have seen increased attendance as the summer has progressed. And I must say, somehow the Avalon’s marquee looks even more impressive than usual right now. 

With all that being said, we are busy planning more events to come in 2020 and 2021, including the inaugural Chesapeake Fire & Ice Festival February 14-16, 2020. We’ve also been working with the Town of Easton and other local partners to remove some of the current barriers that make it difficult for organizations or businesses to hold events downtown. 

However, our office and our newly-formed events committee would also like your input into what other events you feel would work well to help downtown Easton prosper. Your input can have a direct effect on our next addition, as we look to add one large, business-focused event per year to our current calendar. Please contact us with any ideas you have or to set up a time to grab coffee and discuss.
